Method 1: Shubh Labh using foam sheet

The following items will be required:

  • Green glitter foam sheet
  • Cardboard
  • 2 MDF kalash with Shubh and labh cutouts - 4”
  • Pearl Acrylic Paint
  • Golden color
  • 3D outliners
  • Jute/ woolen string
  • White pearls/ white beads
  • Art Supplies: Glue, Scissors, and a Paintbrush

Proceed with the following steps:

1. Create the Shubh Labh cutout base

To get started, grab a piece of cardboard from anywhere or an empty candy box. Use a pencil to make a drawing of two betel leaves and place them on the surface. Cut off the shape with the help of a scissor. Place the leaf cutout on the green glittery foam sheet and cut them simultaneously. As we are using two MDF Kalash, we need to cut out two leaves.

Note: Measure the size of your MDF Shubh Labh cutout before cutting the foam sheet. For a 4” MDF base, we have cut the 7” of foam sheet leaves.

2. Stick the Foam sheet with cardboard base

Attach the glittery green foam sheet with glue to the base of the cardboard. To hide the cardboard, paint a light green acrylic color on it.

3. Paint the MDF Shubh Labh cutouts:

Now, to get things started, let's talk about the main ingredient. Apply a coat of crimson red paint to the pot-shaped cutout, and then add some strokes of deep red paint to it. After that, paint the outer portion of the leaf with a light green color, and the interior portion of the leaf with a darker green color. When you are finished, paint orange strokes on the upper space of the leaf design and coat them with wooden color. Paint the remaining portions of the cutout of the Kalash in a crimson-red color. On the cutout of the Shubh Labh, first, apply the green color with the help of the sponge, then apply the golden color.

4. Varnish the base

Varnish the entire base after the paint has dried to create a glossy finish.

5. Embellish the MDF Shubh Labh with pearls

On this cutout, you will find the four pre-marked circles on the bottom of the base. Fix the pearls on it with the help of glue. Moreover, you can also use the 3D outliners to mark the outlines of these Diwali MDF cutouts.

6. Fix the Shubh Labh cutout on Foam sheet

Place the hand-carved MDF Shubh Labh cutout on the foam sheet with the aid of glue. The glittery base and artistic cutout both work together to make it whole and complete. You can, however, use the hanging tassels with it if you think that something else might add value to it.

At long last, attach the jute or woollen string to the foam sheet using an adhesive. You will find that the installation of the auspicious cutout on the walls is simplified as a result of this.

Method 2: Shubh Labh with Diwali MDF cutouts

Now we are making the Shubh Labh without a foam sheet!

Materials you’ll need:
