Why Pressed flowers are used in coasters?

The fresh flowers hold the consistency to get dried at some point. So, if you take the fresh flowers on the coaster, they will turn brown or rotten after some time of creativity. So, to make them live longer and stay as it is, we always use dry flowers for resin art. This will help to retain the quality of resin coasters.

Now, let us move to the Detail steps to make the Pressed-flower coasters:

Materials You will need:

  • 4” Hexagon silicone coaster moulds
  • Silicone mould release spray
  • Dry flowers for craft
  • Gloves
  • Plastic cups
  • Epoxy ResinArt and hardener
  • Plastic Stirring craft sticks
  • Small pin or needle

Steps To Proceed Further:

Step 1: Prepare your resin art essentials on the table

While working on the resin art, always consider maintaining the precautions and tidiness in the area. Choose the well-ventilated area and get your hand gloves. Then, clean the coasters with a soft cloth to remove the fine dirt and dust.

Now, pre-treat the silicon coasters with a thin coat of Silicone mould release spray. While the spray dries, choose and arrange the dried flowers for resin art and the resin art essentials kit on the table.

Step 2: Combine the Two Solutions

Take the two separate plastic cups and pour ResinArt and Hardener in Equal 1:1 proportion. Make sure to have an equal amount of resin and hardener as the result of the coaster depends on your solution. For precise measurement, you can also use measuring cups or glasses.

Mix the resin and hardener thoroughly until you obtain a smooth solution using a plastic stirring stick. If there are any air bubbles in the glass, you can either tap the cup lightly against a work surface or use a stirring stick to get rid of the bubbles.

Step 3: Start Pouring the Mixture into Silicone Coaster Mould

Take one glass resin and hardener solution and pour a thin layer into the button of the coaster mould. These thin layer will give transparency to the tea coasters and offers a 3D effect to the base.

Step 4: Time To Get pressed Flowers

Depending on the size and space of your coasters, take 8 to 10 pieces of compressed flowers and leaves. Put them gently into the resin coaster mould on the upper side of the fine resin layer in the configuration you prefer.

Keep in mind that the desired top side of the flowers should be facing down as you arrange them on the resin layer. This is due to the fact that, once you de-mould the pressed flower coaster, the top of your base will turn to the mold's bottom part.

Step 5: Pour the Final Layer into the Coaster

Pour the second layer of resin art solution over the base once you are satisfied with the floral arrangement in the mould. Make sure the flowers and leaves stay where they belong as you pour the resin fluid. If they move slightly, gently nudge them back to their original position using a needle or craft stick.

There is a chance that the resin solution will drip into the coaster mould with air bubbles. If you find any air bubbles in the pressed-flower coaster mould, rip them with a pin or needle to obtain a smooth and sturdy base.

Set aside your coaster mould to settle down perfectly for at least 24 hours after you finish your artwork. Check your resin's instructions carefully for information on the setting time.

Step 6: Time to De-mould the resin coaster

Check your coaster mould after a day. If the resin hardens, carefully remove the coaster from the mould.

Tada! Your exclusive Pressed-flower Coasters are ready to evaluate your dining table decor!
